dynavis® – Online Training
In this chapter, you will learn about the basic differences between various hydraulic fluids.
You will know perfectly, how DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluids can significantly improve the performance of hydraulic equipment.
The viscosity limits in the hydraulic system are defined by the OEM and hydraulic pump manufacturer. The viscosity of the fluid needs to stay within a certain range to maintain its functionality in a hydraulic pump.
The viscosity of a hydraulic fluid depends on its temperature. Operating temperature requirements are heavily dependent on the application. This is called the Temperature Operating Window (TOW).
When viewed in the context of daily equipment operation, equipment that uses conventional hydraulic fluids typically exhibits these characteristics:
• Oil is too thick during start-up
• Sluggish hydraulic system operation – which wastes fuel
• During prolonged operation, heat generated results in the oil becoming too thin – which reduces hydraulic power
Conventional hydraulic fluids have a low viscosity index, this means their viscosity is highly sensitive to temperature.
A DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluid has a high viscosity index, meaning that the oil maintains viscosity across a wider temperature operating window. This means that immediately after start-up these oils are at the ideal viscosity range for the machine to work effectively.
This also means that the oil maintains ideal viscosity when it has experienced high pressure and temperature during prolonged operation. The DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluid better maintains viscosity across all operating conditions.
Advantages:
DYNAVIS® is thinner at cold temperatures – quicker start-ups.
DYNAVIS® maintains viscosity at high temperatures – less leakage and more power!
DURABILITY THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
Hydraulic fluids can be “sheared”, or broken down by the physical characteristics of the pump. DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluids are shear-stable, thus also the fluid’s viscosity index stays constant – even after several thousand hours of operation and also in the face of high operating temperatures, when conventional fluids are at their weakest.
Evonik tailors hydraulic fluids exactly to their tasks. A DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluid keeps its high viscosity index its whole service life through – without wearing off.
BETTER EFFICIENCY IN EVERY ASPECT
For every hydraulic system there is an ideal oil viscosity where it is easy to pump and delivers high power.
As viscosity decreases, pumping becomes easier but productivity suffers. The lower fluid viscosity results in internal leakage and poor volumetric efficiency leading to a loss of power.
As viscosity increases, volumetric efficiency improves and internal leakage is reduced however the oil is harder to pump.
The DYNAVIS® formulated hydraulic fluid is able to maintain a balance between mechanical and volumetric efficiency throughout a broad temperature range.
